Lenovo's fanless mobility-centric Project AeroBlade weighs under 830g and has Thunderbolt, which is more than the ThinkBook it potentially won't replace yet

At IFA 2026, Lenovo unveiled Project AeroBlade, a fanless 14-inch concept laptop weighing under 830 grams and just 10mm thick. The innovative notebook, built with magnesium-aluminum, features a high screen-to-body OLED display, Thunderbolt 4, and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, all without fans. Lenovo credits its cooling system, Active Flow, a solid-state thermal architecture developed in partnership with Frore Systems and based on AirJet technology.

While Lenovo claims this design delivers full-performance computing and sustained AI performance, it remains uncertain whether this is truly possible without compromising the capabilities. Frore Systems' AirJet technology, already proven in mini PCs and SSD enclosures, moves air using membranes vibrating at frequencies inaudible to the human ear. This technology, already spearheaded by Intel in its Wildcat Lake laptop reference design, has enabled sustained cooling of up to 15 watts within a chassis just 11.3mm thick.

However, the AeroBlade's design may be more ambitious than practical. At less than 10mm thick, it's a testament to Lenovo's focus on creating a quieter, more reliable notebook. But with a ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 featuring a 25W TDP CPU and requiring a cooling mechanism equivalent to five AirJet Minis, it seems the AeroBlade might be limited to running a low-powered chip. Without a specific processor or date, this concept remains a year or more from becoming a realistic mainstream option.
