Google Chrome just gave its Gemini side panel a feature it should’ve had years ago

Google Chrome has introduced a file upload feature to its Gemini side panel, a development that should have been implemented years ago. This addition allows users to directly hand Gemini a document and request actions such as summarizing, explaining, or finding specific information, all without leaving the Chrome browser. The feature was first spotted by X user Leopeva64, who noted the new upload option under the Add attachments menu within the Gemini side panel in Chrome.

Interestingly, this capability is significantly more recent compared to Microsoft Edge’s Copilot sidebar, which has supported file uploads for years. Gemini has been progressively integrated into various aspects of Google’s ecosystem, available across Google apps, Android devices, and even in Chrome. Despite this widespread integration, the absence of a file upload option in the Gemini side panel in Chrome has been glaring. However, it appears that this basic functionality is set to be addressed.
