George Lucas presents a galaxy of art that goes far, far past 'Star Wars' in new Los Angeles museum

The new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles aims to showcase a wide range of creative works beyond just "Star Wars," with CEO Tracey Bates describing the museum as a "temple to the people's art." While "Star Wars" occupies only 7% of the museum's 100,000 square feet, it serves as a starting point for visitors. The opening exhibit, "Star Wars in Motion," features production versions of iconic sets from the films, like Luke Skywalker's landspeeder and speeder bikes.

However, the museum's true treasures lie in its diverse collection of works from popular painters, illustrators, comic artists, and paperback cover creators. Among these treasures are original comic strips, paintings by Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish, and a sculpture of Rockwell by the museum's chief curator. Rockwell's inclusion highlights the museum's commitment to honoring lesser-known but equally significant artistic contributions, with a focus on pieces like his powerful rendering of Ruby Bridges.

The museum's CEO and her staff are working to spread awareness about the museum's offerings in the final days before opening, ensuring that visitors can fully appreciate the vast array of artistic talent on display.
