BPP unveils reform to digitalise, modernise public procurement

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has unveiled a comprehensive procurement transformation programme, focusing on digitalization, professionalization, compliance, and the strategic use of government spending. The initiative aims to enhance transparency in public expenditure and improve partnerships with media and content creators.

Bureau Director-General, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, emphasized that procurement is a key driver for Nigeria's economic and infrastructural development. The reform includes the implementation of an electronic government procurement system to automate key stages, reduce manual intervention, and improve data reliability for informed decision-making.

Adedokun also stressed the importance of focusing government spending on domestic industries, job creation, innovation, and retaining economic value within the country. The BPP urges greater professionalization, compliance, and oversight mechanisms, as well as increased access to procurement opportunities for underrepresented groups.

Meanwhile, the Bloggers and Content Creators Association of Nigeria (BAVCCA) has announced plans to submit evidence of alleged corruption in the public procurement system to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The association plans to formally name implicated government institutions and draw attention to the alleged infractions.
