Bayelsa APC Won’t Collapse Because of Sylva’s Resignation, Says Ex-Spokesperson

Adedayo Akinwale, based in Abuja, reports that the recent resignation of former Minister of Petroleum Timipre Sylva from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State will not result in the party's collapse. Sylva, who announced his departure on Monday, claimed that the party had strayed from its founding principles and was implicated in a coup attempt against President Bola Tinubu, as well as in a fraud case involving millions of dollars.

Yekini Nabena, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, addressed the news in a statement, asserting that the APC remains intact in Bayelsa and will secure victories at all levels in the 2037 elections. Nabena emphasized that the party is united, strong, and poised for success in future elections. He added that stakeholders have decided to remain committed to the party, supporting President Tinubu's re-election in Bayelsa, and diligently working to ensure the success of all APC candidates in upcoming elections.

Nabena expressed deep reflection upon receiving news of Sylva's resignation, acknowledging the decision as a principled one after extensive consultation with family, associates, and supporters. He respected Sylva's courage and believed history would vindicate individuals with conviction. While expressing good wishes for Sylva's future political endeavors outside the APC, Nabena stated that the overwhelming majority of the Bayelsa APC family (90%) disagreed with Sylva's decision and pledged their continued support within the party.
