Bayelsa APC Won’t Collapse Because of Sylva’s Resignation, Says Ex-Deputy Spokesperson

In a recent development, the resignation of former Bayelsa State Minister of Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns about the party's stability in the region. However, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Yekini Nabena, has firmly stated that Sylva's departure will not lead to the collapse of the APC in Bayelsa.

Sylva, who is also a former Governor of Bayelsa State, announced his resignation on Monday, citing the party's deviation from its founding principles and allegations of its involvement in a coup against President Bola Tinubu. Currently, Sylva is under investigation for these accusations.

In response to Sylva's resignation, Nabena issued a statement on Wednesday, expressing his deep reflection on the news. He emphasized that the party remains intact and united in Bayelsa, vowing to participate in all levels of elections in 2027. Nabena reiterated the party's strength, unity, and potential to be a formidable force in future elections.

Nabena acknowledged Sylva's decision to leave the party, stating that he respected his courage to take this principled stand. He also highlighted that 90% of the Bayelsa APC family agreed with his decision, but they would continue to support the party where they have invested their time, resources, and effort.

Nabena expressed confidence that the problems facing the country are not related to political parties but rather to leadership issues. He affirmed that politicians are not created but recycled, and the party would ensure its continued existence by delivering all candidates in Bayelsa State.
