APM Crisis Deepens as Aggrieved Members Institute Law Suits at Federal High Court

The crisis within the Allied People’s Movement (APM) escalated sharply, as aggrieved members filed two suits at the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State. The first suit was brought by 33 candidates who emerged victorious from the Primary election for the Local Government Election scheduled to occur in Oyo State in December. Hon.

Bisi Akande and 32 others are seeking an injunction from the court to prevent the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) from monitoring any other primary conducted by the APM in the local government elections. Simultaneously, Musibau Olayiwola, an elected Zonal Vice Chairman of the APM, filed a separate suit demanding the nullification of the party’s national convention recently held in Bauchi.

Olayiwola is petitioning for a fresh convention that would grant him the opportunity to participate. Both suits were adjourned for further hearing until Monday, September 21, 2026. Olayiwola’s legal team, represented by Monday Mawah and Joseph Simon, argued that according to Section 223 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Article 8 and 11 of the APM Constitution, and other relevant laws, the Plaintiff, who was elected as the Zonal Chairman, was entitled to receive nomination forms to be ratified at the National Convention scheduled from August 12 to 13, 2026.

The plaintiffs further contended that the refusal to provide the nomination forms violated their right to hold office within the party. The APM candidates also alleged that despite their best efforts, the party had denied them the right to obtain the nomination form, thereby preventing their positions from being ratified.
