US, Iran exchange attacks as lull in war appears over

On Wednesday, the United States and Iran resumed a heightened state of military tension following a significant exchange of fire, marking the most substantial confrontation in recent weeks. Washington signaled its readiness for more aggressive strikes, while Tehran vehemently protested an attack that reportedly claimed the lives of five individuals and left dozens of others injured during a wedding celebration.

The U.S. Central Command disclosed that its forces targeted various Iranian military assets, including air defenses, radar systems, maritime capabilities, mine-laying equipment, and communication networks on Tuesday. Iranian state media reported that Iran had struck multiple targets near the Strait of Hormuz, an area where Tehran has repeatedly warned against unauthorized tankers attempting to pass through.

Iran claimed it struck U.S. targets in Jordan and Iraq, according to official statements, while Iranian media accounts suggested attacks in Bahrain as well. Although the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) asserted they had inflicted heavy casualties on U.S. personnel in Jordan, two U.S. officials informed Reuters that no casualties had been confirmed based on preliminary evaluations.

Jordan's armed forces reported that their air defense systems successfully intercepted 13 ballistic missiles that had entered the kingdom's airspace.
