Tiger Woods facing change of plea hearing in DUI car crash case

Tiger Woods is scheduled to face a change of plea hearing in a DUI car crash case on Wednesday in Martin County Courthouse. The incident occurred in March when Woods' vehicle rolled over following a collision with a pick-up truck towing a trailer. The 15-time major champion was arrested and spent eight hours in jail before posting bail. Previously, Woods entered a written plea of not guilty to charges of driving under the influence, property damage, and refusing to submit to testing.

During the crash, Woods was observed by police to have sweating profusely, act lethargic and slow, and have bloodshot and glassy eyes. He admitted to changing the radio station and looking down at his cell phone moments before the accident. Despite denying alcohol consumption, Woods had taken a few prescription medications and did not submit to a drug test. Two white pills identified as hydrocodone, a prescription opioid, were found in his vehicle.

Woods underwent emergency surgery for leg injuries sustained in a serious car accident in February 2021. He has not competed on the PGA Tour since July 2024. In a recent statement on X, Woods acknowledged the seriousness of his situation and stated he was stepping away for treatment and to focus on his health. Woods had previously faced DUI charges in 2017 for being found asleep at the wheel and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving due to having five prescription drugs in his system.
