Tiger Woods to change plea after crash arrest

Tiger Woods is set to alter his plea in court, five months after being arrested for driving under the influence in a rollover crash in Florida. The golfer, 50, was photographed arriving at court in Martin County, Florida, where a change of plea hearing is scheduled. Woods was taken into custody following the March accident, and he had tested positive for a breathalyzer but opted not to undergo further drug testing.

Initially, Woods pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and refusal to submit to testing.

Woods, who sought treatment after the incident, has not disclosed the nature of the change in his plea. The BBC has reached out to prosecutors and Woods' lawyer for more information. No one sustained injuries during the crash, although Woods had to free himself through the passenger door. Police released body camera footage from April, which depicted Woods kneeling and speaking with officers as his vehicle had clipped a truck and rolled over. Woods claimed he had looked down at his phone before the crash.

According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, the golfer had tested positive for a breathalyzer but declined a urinalysis for other drugs. When questioned about any prescription medication, Woods mentioned taking "a few," which was later edited out of the footage. Police suspected that Woods' "normal faculties" were impaired by an "unknown substance."

Later, authorities found two white pills in Woods' pocket, identified as hydrocodone, a painkiller. In a social media post following the incident, Woods acknowledged the seriousness of his situation and announced he was stepping away for treatment to focus on his health. This marked Woods' second arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.
