Rivers police dismiss four officers over death of Uniport graduate

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed four officers over their alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of a University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo. The incident occurred last Thursday in the Ada George area, near Agip Junction. The police commissioner, Olugbenga Adepoju, revealed this during a press conference on Wednesday.

Obodo was reportedly shot dead when a police patrol team tried to stop his vehicle, which refused to halt. The four officers involved have been placed under disciplinary proceedings for their actions during the incident. Adepoju emphasized the command's commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability, respect for human rights, and the protection of lives and property.

He stated that the command would not protect any personnel found to have acted unlawfully. Additionally, the police announced the arrest of five individuals suspected of belonging to a one-chance robbery organization operating in Port Harcourt and its surrounding areas. The suspects were identified as Nelson Idakiniseleg, Michael Matthew, Kelly Edison, Daniel Obodo, and Chisom Unegbu.

They were apprehended following intelligence-led operations conducted by the Violent Crime Response Unit in response to reports of one-chance robberies in Port Harcourt.
