Congress high command likely to act against Surekha, Chinna Reddy

The Congress high command is reportedly considering disciplinary action against Forests and Environment Minister Konda Surekha and State Planning Board Vice-Chairman G. Chinna Reddy for perceived criticisms of party leadership. The issue has gained traction following Ms. Surekha’s daughter making sharp attacks on party leaders and bringing Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy into the controversy.

After reviewing a report submitted by the State unit, AICC leadership, including Mallikarjun Kharge and K.C. Venugopal, have held separate discussions with relevant party officials to seek their perspectives. Sources suggest the central leadership is leaning towards taking action against Ms. Surekha and Mr. Chinna Reddy for what they deem as unwarranted public outbursts.

Ms. Surekha, currently in New Delhi, is said to have submitted a representation to Mallikarjun Kharge, alleging a concerted effort to target her and questioning her responsibility for her daughter’s remarks. While party leaders are concerned about possible discontent among the BC community if disciplinary action is taken, those advocating immediate action argue that delaying it could further embarrass both the party and the government.

The party leadership reportedly took exception to Mr. Chinna Reddy’s criticisms of Wanaparthy MLA Megha Reddy and other party officials. The fate of the disciplinary action depends on how the Congress leadership balances disciplinary concerns with potential political fallout.
