Nvidia CEO urges G20 to avoid AI rules on 'theoretical' harms

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang urged G20 nations not to create AI regulations centered around hypothetical dangers, insisting they should instead concentrate on addressing real-world issues related to the technology. Huang made this statement during a tech-focused G20 meeting in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, alongside U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

Experts from Anthropic, Tom Brown, and OpenAI, Sam Altman, are also set to attend the gathering on Wednesday. Huang's message mirrors that of the previous administration and other American tech leaders who advocated for reduced global regulation during Tuesday's meeting. These executives desire less oversight from governments worldwide to either shape the rules as they are being written, or to prevent their rapid growth from being hampered by slower product releases or alterations aimed at addressing security concerns.

The U.S. intends to convince G20 participants at the conference to refrain from instituting entirely new regulations for AI, and instead focus on drafting guidelines for unique circumstances involving the technology.
