Mudryk joins Spurs on loan from Chelsea after doping ban ends

Ukrainian forward Mykhailo Mudryk has joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan from Chelsea for the 2026/2027 season, following the expiry of his doping suspension. The 25-year-old winger, who previously played a few minutes for Chelsea during pre-season, will aim to revive his career under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, his former coach at Shakhtar Donetsk.

De Zerbi expressed his enthusiasm for Mudryk's decision to move to Spurs, stating that he expects him to deliver significant contributions to the team. "I will demand a lot from Misha (Mudryk) and it is our job to help him find the best version of himself," De Zerbi said in a press release. "If we do that then he can become a very important player for us."

The Football Association cleared Mudryk to play again in late July following an agreement with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to withdraw his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Mudryk was initially suspended for four years after testing positive for a low concentration of meldonium during a 2024 drug test. He made a brief appearance for Chelsea during their pre-season in August but has not yet featured in a league match this season. The Ukrainian international, signed from Shakhtar Donetsk for £62 million (US$83 million) in January 2023, last appeared officially for his previous club in November 2024.
