Manhunt leads to fifth arrest in Teluk Intan gang robbery that killed 69-year-old

IPOH, September 2 — The police have apprehended a fifth individual in connection with a gang robbery that resulted in the death of a 69-year-old man in Teluk Intan on April 17. ACP Chua Kok Lian, the chief of Hilir Perak police, announced the arrest of the 26-year-old suspect on August 26 in Klang, Selangor, as part of Operation Kesan/Wanted.

The arrest marked the culmination of persistent efforts to apprehend those linked to the incident, which claimed the life of the elderly victim. Earlier, the suspect and his four accomplices were arrested and charged on May 7, 2026, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, in conjunction with Section 34. Following further investigations, the case was forwarded to the Deputy Public Prosecutor, who subsequently instructed the charge against the suspect as well.

The 26-year-old, who is presently in custody, is scheduled to appear before the Teluk Intan Magistrate’s Court on September 2 to address the charges. Chua appealed to the public to provide any pertinent information regarding criminal activities to aid in maintaining public safety and order, particularly in the Hilir Perak district.

On April 17, a media report detailed an elderly man's demise following a machete assault during a gang robbery at a residence in Pekan Baru, Teluk Intan. Chua had previously disclosed that the victim sustained grave injuries to his right hand and left palm, ultimately succumbing to his wounds at the scene. Subsequently, on May 7, four men were formally charged at the Teluk Intan Magistrate’s Court for the murder of the elderly man using a sharp instrument.
