‘I remain in charge of Rivers political structure’ – Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, has asserted that he continues to wield significant influence within the political landscape of Rivers State and the FCT, even though he is no longer the governor of Rivers State. During an interview with journalists in Port Harcourt, Wike addressed inquiries about the current political dynamics in Rivers, clarifying that one does not need to hold the gubernatorial position to maintain control over a state's political affairs.

He proclaimed himself as the "General Commander of the Political Infantry," emphasizing his position of authority. Wike further asserted his control in the FCT, likening it to a state, reinforcing his stance that political power extends beyond the governor's seat. He reiterated his commitment to the president, stating that his duty includes supporting both Rivers and the FCT.

Upon his return to Rivers State, Wike's visit was primarily aimed at re-establishing connections with his political allies and spending quality time with family, rather than purely political objectives. He clarified that the trip was not a relocation but a return to reconnect with constituents and engage in familial duties, ensuring they remain informed and engaged.

Despite his political prominence, Wike acknowledged that his influence has also drawn more opposition, reflecting the complex and often contentious nature of Nigeria's political environment.
