I didn’t mean to hurt you – Ayitey Powers apologises to NSA boss (Video)

Former Ghanaian boxer Ayitey Powers has expressed remorse to National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, following remarks he reportedly made that led to his arrest and detention. Speaking after his release, Powers reassured Ampofo that he never intended to harm the NSA boss and pleaded for his forgiveness.

"Mr Ampofo, I don't mean to hurt you, so I’m begging him," he stated. The former athlete admitted to being unhappy about the situation but acknowledged that it had taken an unfortunate turn. "I am not happy to be in this situation, but it has come," he added. Powers also extended gratitude to those who supported him during his time in custody, specifically mentioning media personality Kevin Taylor.

"I want to thank everyone for their support, especially Kevin Taylor," he said. The controversy arose after a video surfaced on social media suggesting that Powers had threatened the life of NSA Director-General Ampofo Ankrah. The incident was triggered by a dispute over a boxing promotion and disagreements surrounding the cancellation of a boxing event.

Following his release, Ayitey Powers announced his intent to resume boxing promotion and called upon businessman Ibrahim Mahama for assistance. "I want to thank Ibrahim Mahama, and I know he can help me do Ayitey Powers boxing promotion," he appealed. He also expressed optimism regarding the potential involvement of boxing administrator Moses Foh-Amoaning, believing that his backing could aid in reviving his promotional activities.
