I asked ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity to plan the same Disney World vacation — one cost $5,000 more

I inquired three AI assistants to devise a five-day Walt Disney World vacation for a family of five, comprising two adults and three children aged 12, 10, and 6. The family would depart from Philadelphia and spend the trip between March 30 and April 3, 2027. I requested not only an itinerary but also all aspects of the vacation, including flights, lodging, tickets, meals, the Lightning Lane strategy, restaurants, transportation, souvenirs, and a packing list.

While all three AI systems proposed a plausible Disney trip, their cost estimates varied significantly, prompting further examination. ChatGPT initially estimated a travel budget of $7,500 to $9,000, which included $1,000 to $1,500 for airfare, $1,800 to $2,600 for lodging, $2,500 to $3,000 for tickets, and another $1,000 to $1,400 for dining.

However, the hotel estimate proved inaccurate for the given dates, as it was significantly lower than the actual cost. Gemini, on the other hand, arrived at a more precise cost range of $10,050 to $13,350, accounting for the high demand during the pre-Easter period and the higher ticket prices for children aged 10 and above. Perplexity estimated a cost between $8,760 to $11,520, considering factors such as food expenses, Lightning Lane usage, souvenirs, and the Memory Maker service.

While Perplexity's higher estimate may seem excessive, it was more aligned with my preference for a more luxurious vacation experience. After comparing the AI-generated itineraries, I found that Perplexity's plan, which included Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom on consecutive days, might be the most suitable for our family.

Although the budget was higher, the itinerary provided a balanced mix of attractions that catered to the interests of all three children and allowed for a well-deserved Disney vacation after several years.
