GCC, Qatar, Jordan condemn Iranian attack on Saudi tanker in Strait of Hormuz

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), including Qatar and Jordan, have vehemently denounced Iran's attack on a Saudi tanker in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The incident resulted in the loss of life among the tanker's crew members.

GCC Secretary General Jasem Albudaiwi emphasized that the attack represents a dangerous escalation, a severe breach of international law, and a direct threat to the safety and security of global maritime navigation. He highlighted the potential grave risks to regional stability and the flow of international trade.

Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a blatant violation of international maritime law and UN Security Council Resolution 2817. The statement demanded the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that freedom of navigation in the waterway is non-negotiable. Qatar reiterated its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and voiced unwavering support for all measures taken by Riyadh to safeguard its assets.

Similarly, Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the attack as a clear violation of international law and a direct threat to global maritime safety. The Jordanian statement reaffirmed the country's absolute support for Saudi Arabia, expressing full backing for all actions taken by Riyadh to protect its security, stability, and national resources.
