Fernandez ‘didn’t hesitate’ over record Man City move

Enzo Fernandez expressed his eagerness to join Manchester City, just hours after the club agreed to a British record transfer fee of £125 million for the Argentine midfielder. The 25-year-old completed his move from Chelsea during the transfer deadline day, bringing City's total spending to over £450 million, the highest in a single transfer window. This transfer mirrors the £125 million fee Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak last year.

Fernandez, who was sent off in Argentina's 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup final earlier this year, had previously been linked with a move to Real Madrid. However, he expressed that he had no hesitation upon receiving the offer from City. The midfielder, who has signed a five-year contract, said he always dreamed of playing for a club as prestigious as City, describing it as a club that has won a lot in recent years and is making history in football.

Enzo Maresca, who took over as City's manager following Pep Guardiola's departure, will be working alongside Fernandez in the new-look midfield. Fernandez praised his former Chelsea manager, stating that Maresca is a top manager and a pleasure to work with, as they share similar traits and were passionate about the game. The Argentina international is set to bolster City's midfield, joining England's Elliot Anderson, who moved from Nottingham Forest for £116 million in July.
