Elliot Page Is ‘Not Really’ Getting Casting Calls After ‘The Odyssey’: ‘If Someone Wants to Call Me…I’d Love to Do Good Work’

In The Odyssey, Elliot Page plays a small but significant role as Sinon, a soldier who is sacrificed to facilitate the Greeks' construction of the Trojan Horse. The Oscar-nominated actor has given a strong performance in what has become one of the year's most anticipated films. However, Elliot Page revealed in an interview with On Film... With Kevin McCarthy that he hasn't received any new offers of work since his role in The Odyssey. "I get some pushback for being Canadian," he joked, "but if someone wants to call me…"

The Odyssey marks Elliot Page's biggest film role to date as an out trans man. Earlier in the interview, McCarthy and Page discussed Page's experience working with Christopher Nolan on Inception. Page reflected that acting in Ariadne's role was "great" but also "personally uncomfortable." Now, Page feels differently. "I'm not having to literally work through a performance that I don't even quite know I'm doing to get to a performance," he said.

"I feel now, because that's removed and I don't have to deal with that when I'm acting, I feel like I could maybe do some of my best work now." He added that "feeling more embodied and connected — knowing yourself more and embodying yourself more weirdly lets you let go."

At present, Page has no immediate projects in the pipeline. However, he expressed a desire to do "good work." He admitted that when it comes to making connections with potential collaborators, he is more cautious now. "I'm more like, ‘If they want me…’, you know?’ Because I was seen in a certain way before, and it is different now."

He joked about the Canadian aspect of it all. "The Canadian thing." Despite the difficulties, Page remains grateful to Nolan for including him in The Odyssey. In the interview, he mimed a moment of emotional release when he wrapped on the film, saying, "There was a full circle moment." The Odyssey is still playing in theaters.
