Ukrainian center Kate Koval details leaving LSU after recruitment of Russian player

Russian aerial attacks targeted residential buildings in Ukraine's Kyiv and Odesa regions overnight and Wednesday morning, resulting in at least eight civilian injuries, according to local officials. The Ukrainian air force reported that these two regions received the brunt of the latest attacks on the country. The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, now in its fifth year since Moscow's invasion, has seen an intensification of the air war.

Despite a largely stagnant front line in eastern and southern Ukraine, U.S. efforts to negotiate a peace settlement have not yet borne fruit. Late Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy exchanged threats over their potential next moves. Zelenskyy cautioned foreign airlines against flying over Russian airspace due to Ukrainian long-range drone attacks, stating that "Russian airspace will effectively be closing."

He indicated that the military pressure aims to push Russia towards accepting peace talks. In contrast, Putin labeled Zelenskyy's actions as "state terrorism" and firmly stated, "We don't negotiate with terrorists." During a late-night press conference at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan, Putin also broached the possibility of striking British military facilities if the U.K. continues to supply Ukraine with weaponry, though he declined to confirm this as a possibility.

Meanwhile, China, North Korea, and Iran have offered military support to Russia, as they have in previous years. The recent comments from both leaders unfolded as European officials deliberate on their response to what they perceive as Moscow's campaign of continental sabotage and disruption, aimed at undermining support for Ukraine.

Germany recently accused Russia of attempting an attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport last month, using a drone packed with explosives.
