Central Regional Minister visits injured victims after New Winneba attack

The Central Regional Minister journeyed to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital to assess the wellbeing of individuals injured during a recent attack in the New Winneba Township. Upon arrival, the Minister engaged with the victims and evaluated their conditions following the violent incident, which has prompted heightened security concerns in certain parts of the region.

The assault took place on Tuesday when a group allegedly from Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze and Gomoa Pomadze attacked residents and damaged shops and properties owned by the locals. The violence allegedly resulted in several casualties, with at least three fatalities and about 15 others, including a police officer, suffering injuries and being transported to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for medical attention.

In response to the incident, personnel from the Winneba Divisional Headquarters and Agona Swedru District Patrols were dispatched to quell the situation and restore order. Later, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, instructed a reinforcement team from the National Police Headquarters, comprising two armored vehicles, to bolster security in the area.

The Central Regional Minister's visit is anticipated to offer authorities the chance to interact with the victims and gauge the repercussions of the incident, as efforts persist to restore tranquility and security in New Winneba.
