Anthropic back on 'right side' with Trump administration, US Commerce secretary says

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick claimed that AI company Anthropic has re-aligned itself with the Trump administration, as reported by Axios on September 2, indicating a possible improvement in their contentious relationship. This assertion came in the wake of a U.S. judge ruling in favor of Anthropic in their dispute with the American military regarding AI safety in battlefield contexts.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had earlier barred Anthropic from certain military contracts, citing the company's refusal to permit the U.S. military to utilize its Claude AI models for domestic surveillance or autonomous weapons. In response, Anthropic took legal action in a California court. However, Anthropic did not provide a comment to Reuters at the time of writing.
