Why NIA court rejected bail plea of J&K man accused of backing Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) court rejected the bail plea of Tanvir Ahmed Malik, a man from J&K's Doda district, who was accused of providing support to Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists. Malik was arrested in March 2021 on charges of offering food, shelter, and logistics to Haroon Abbas Wani and Tahir Ahmed Bhat, who were allegedly involved in a weapons snatch incident in Kishtwar.

The court stated that if the rule of delaying trial for accused persons were followed, few cases under the special enactments would be resolved post a certain period. The court also expressed concern that Malik's release on bail could potentially influence key witnesses, thereby undermining the pursuit of justice.
