UN slashes food aid for occupied West Bank and Gaza amid funding shortfall

On Monday, a tragic incident occurred in Times Square, New York, where a vice president at Bank of America lost her life after being stabbed multiple times. Erin Piacenti, 32, had been working as the vice president of the business selection and conflicts unit at the bank since February 2025. Her death was confirmed by the bank, which expressed deep sorrow and shared that she was greatly missed by her colleagues and loved ones.

The incident unfolded in the bustling tourist square, around 4:00 p.m. A woman, identified as Pamela Cisneros, 49, a resident of Queens, was seen wielding multiple knives. She approached Piacenti and stabbed her, followed by another victim, a 68-year-old man, about 20 seconds apart. Cisneros continued to advance even after police officers tried to persuade her to drop the knives, using a Taser, but to no avail.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani reported that the attacker responded to the officers' commands with threats, stating, "I’m not dropping anything, I’d rather kill both of you." She then declared, "I will kill you." The second victim was reported to be in stable condition at a New York hospital.

Policing Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that Cisneros had a history of mental health problems. Despite attempts to defuse the situation, Cisneros sustained severe abdominal wounds and succumbed to her injuries at Bellevue Hospital. The incident, described by Tisch as a "senseless attack," is currently under investigation by the NYPD’s Detective Division.
