Tsitsipas says Kyrgios’s positive cocaine test ‘kind of expected’

Stefanos Tsitsipas, the world No 53 Greek tennis player, expressed surprise at his former rival Nick Kyrgios' positive cocaine test and subsequent suspension. Kyrgios, the 31-year-old Australian who has not played much singles tennis recently, admitted to making a significant mistake after failing a drug test. The player cited injuries taking a heavy toll on him both physically and mentally as the reason behind his positive test result.

Kyrgios apologized for his actions and stated that he considers himself a nice person, but he had heard similar behaviors from others in the tennis community. The tennis players acknowledged that while Kyrgios has a powerful serve and strong ground strokes, his talent has not been enough to sustain his career, as evidenced by his best performance at Wimbledon in 2022, where he reached the championship match but lost to Novak Djokovic.
