Tsitsipas 'expected' Kyrgios drug ban

Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek tennis player, expressed his surprise at Nick Kyrgios' recent suspension from tennis due to a cocaine positive test. "Pretty much expected, to be honest," Tsitsipas stated, adding that he was not surprised it came so late. Kyrgios, an Australian player, was banned earlier this month for violating anti-doping rules after testing positive for cocaine in June while in Spain for a tournament.

Tsitsipas, who recently defeated Kyrgios' fellow Australian, Arthur Fils in the first round of the U.S. Open, revealed that he was aware of Kyrgios' situation before the official announcement. Kyrgios' suspension could potentially last up to four years, though a lighter penalty is anticipated. Tsitsipas, who shared a history of a heated match with Kyrgios during the 2022 Wimbledon tournament, acknowledged Kyrgios' past behavior, describing it as "bullying."

Kyrgios himself had admitted feeling "helpless and alone" following his suspension, noting that it did not justify his actions.
