2 S. Koreans make International Team for Presidents Cup

SEOUL, September 1 (Yonhap) -- Kim Si-woo and Tom Kim have been selected for the International Team representing South Korea in the upcoming Presidents Cup. The six spots on the International Team were confirmed on Tuesday following the Tour Championship, the PGA Tour's final playoff event. Kim Si-woo, ranked 13th worldwide, is the highest-ranked team player and will participate in his fourth Presidents Cup.

Tom Kim, at 30th, is making his third appearance in the event. The team will also include Ryan Fox from New Zealand, Hideki Matsuyama from Japan, Min Woo Lee from Australia, and Adam Scott, also from Australia. Kim Si-woo has had the second-most top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour this season, with 11, and leads the tour with 55 rounds in the 60s and 66 rounds under par.

Tom Kim secured his first PGA Tour victory at the Genesis Scottish Open in July and has had four top-20 finishes in six tournaments since. The Presidents Cup, a biennial match play competition between international stars and American teams, will take place at Medinah Country Club in Illinois. The International Team's captain, Geoff Ogilvy, will make six additional selections later, with South Korean veteran Im Sung-jae, ranked ninth, being a potential candidate.

This will be the 16th edition of the Presidents Cup, with the United States having won 13 times previously. The last tie occurred in 2003, and South Korea's sole victory came in 1998.
