There’s no fixed price for kidney — Surgeon

Dr Torngee Malu, a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, clarified the topic of kidney donation prices amid an investigation into alleged kidney harvesting and human trafficking in Nigeria. Malu emphasized there is no predetermined monetary value for a human kidney and stressed that organ donation should not be viewed as a sale. He said the law allows for reimbursement or compensation but does not prescribe a fixed price, and the compensation amount is relative.

Malu also highlighted that kidney disease affects people across income groups, and priority should be given to access to transplantation rather than assigning a monetary value to donated organs. He explained that kidney transplantation is a highly specialized procedure requiring specialists and carried out under standard medical conditions.
