Starmer to stand down as MP, triggers by-election

Former British prime minister Sir Keir Starmer is set to resign as the Member of Parliament for Holborn and St Pancras, leading to a by-election in the London constituency. In an interview with the Camden New Journal, Mr Starmer explained that it was the right time to step down from his parliamentary duties and concentrate on international affairs.

He expressed his gratitude for representing the constituency, stating that it was an honor and privilege to take over from Frank Dobson, a respected constituency MP and former Labour government member. Sir Keir indicated that he will now focus on international matters, including defence, security, trade, and technology in a rapidly evolving world.

He also emphasized his commitment to continuing his work on combating violence against women and girls, a cause he has championed before and after becoming an MP.
