Sabah disaster committee urges public to limit outdoor activities as four districts record unhealthy API

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 1 — The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee has cautioned the public, especially those who are vulnerable, to reduce outdoor activities and rigorous exercise after four districts recorded unhealthy air quality levels. The advisory was issued as hazy conditions affected several areas, urging children, elderly, pregnant women, and those with respiratory issues to take special care.

Those needing to go outside should wear a mask, stay hydrated, practice good hygiene, and ensure proper indoor ventilation, the committee stated. Air quality worsened across multiple monitoring stations, with Kota Kinabalu reporting the highest reading of 171, followed by Kimanis and Keningau at 156 each, and Tawau at 132. Sandakan remained within the moderate range at 91.

The committee also cautioned against open burning and urged residents to monitor API updates and health guidelines. Those with symptoms like persistent coughing, difficulty breathing, or chest pain should seek immediate medical attention. The committee will continue to monitor air quality conditions and coordinate necessary interventions.
