Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv kills at least four

Russian air strikes have claimed the lives of nine individuals and left numerous others injured in the Kyiv region, authorities have reported. This marks the sixth consecutive day of relentless assaults on the Ukrainian capital. Since its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has intensified its aerial assaults against the nation as its battlefield advancements have stagnated.

In a novel approach since last week, Moscow has deployed vast numbers of drones to besiege Kyiv and adjacent areas throughout the day and night, resulting in fatalities and property damage. Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Symohyla stated that Russian drones and ballistic missiles had targeted residential areas and railway infrastructure during the night-time attacks, urging Ukraine's allies to intensify economic pressure on Russia and rekindle discussions regarding the utilization of Russia's frozen assets to finance Ukraine's war efforts.

Eight lives were lost in Kyiv during the overnight strikes, with most victims being railway workers. Additional explosions were reported this morning, following a daytime drone attack that caused a blaze at a high-rise apartment building, Mayor Vitali Klitschko revealed. Four fatalities and 13 injuries were sustained in Boryspil, a locality just outside Kyiv, in an attack that targeted a residential building and other structures.

One casualty outside Kyiv was an Indian national. The Russian assaults also struck a border crossing with NATO-member Romania in the Black Sea region of Odesa, leaving thousands of households sans electricity, President Volodymyr Zelensky informed. Moscow has persistently pounded Ukrainian cities with air strikes throughout the conflict, primarily during nighttime raids.

In August, Russia launched over 2,800 jet-powered drones, a five-fold increase from July compared to June. Ukraine's air force claims to have neutralized five ballistic missiles. Recently, Kyiv received a limited supply of Patriot interceptors. Ukrainian forces have also ramped up their assaults on Russia, targeting oil refineries and logistics infrastructure, such as warehouses belonging to online retail companies.

Russian regional leaders disclosed that air attacks ignited a fire in Ust-Luga, a significant export hub in the northwest, and caused damage to civilian facilities in Samara, a region housing several oil refineries. A civilian perished in an attack on Russia's Belgorod region, adjacent to Ukraine, according to the acting governor.

Estonia's defense forces disclosed that drones engaged in a Ukrainian strike against Russia briefly trespassed into Estonian airspace. Estonia's Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur emphasized the significance of supporting Ukraine with air defense assets, highlighting this incident as the latest in a series of such occurrences in recent months.

Russian Defense Minister warned that Russian airspace would become wholly perilous, inundated with Ukrainian drones, as long as the war endures.
