Russian barrage of drones and missiles on Ukraine’s capital region kills at least 11

The Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv was struck by a significant Russian aerial assault overnight, resulting in at least 11 casualties and over a dozen injuries, including three children, according to local authorities. The Russian military unleashed a barrage of ballistic, cruise, and anti-radar missiles, along with 218 drones and decoys, beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Approximately one-third of the drones were jet-powered. The primary targets of the assault were the Kyiv and Odesa regions, as reported by Ukraine's air force via a Telegram statement. These attacks marked the sixth consecutive day of Russian aggression on Kyiv, following an alarming escalation of air raid alerts that began last week.

The continuous onslaught has subjected the city and its inhabitants to an ongoing threat and disruption, with strikes occurring both during the day and night. The latest attack targeted civilian infrastructure and residential buildings in multiple Kyiv districts, leading to eight deaths in the city itself and three fatalities in the surrounding area.

Seven individuals were killed in the Darnytskyi district, while one person sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized. Two others, including a child, were wounded in the Holosiivskyi district when a nonresidential building exploded and ignited. In the Solomianskyi district, a drone strike damaged a residential building, prompting emergency responders to rescue a man and free a woman trapped under debris.
