Russia targets Kyiv and its region for sixth consecutive night of attacks

Nine individuals lost their lives and more than a dozen sustained injuries in Russian airstrikes targeting Kyiv and the surrounding area on Tuesday, authorities confirmed. This marked the sixth straight day of attacks on the Ukrainian capital. The ongoing conflict, which began in February 2022, aims to find a resolution to the deadliest confrontation on the European continent since World War II.

In Kyiv, eight people were killed, including three children, while fires erupted in various locations across the city. In Boryspil, situated within the Kyiv region, one person perished and nine others, including a child, were injured when missiles and drones struck a residential building and a commercial facility, reported Governor Tymur Tkachenko via Telegram.

The relentless Russian strikes on Kyiv and its vicinity are disrupting the lives of millions. Air raid warnings were broadcast throughout most of Ukraine on Tuesday morning. Alongside the strikes on Ukraine's borders, Russia has intensified assaults on energy and logistics infrastructure. On Tuesday, a fresh strike halted border crossings into Romania, a European Union and NATO member, at Orlivka on the Danube River.

Meanwhile, Russia faced a drone attack that ignited a fire in the port area of Ust-Luga, a significant export hub in the northwest, and Moscow responded by repelling drones. In Russia’s Samara region, located 500 miles southeast of Moscow and home to several major oil refineries, an air strike damaged civilian structures, as disclosed by the local governor on Telegram.

Both Russia and Ukraine deny deliberately targeting civilians. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a constructive conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump's representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, on Monday, aiming to finalize visit dates to Ukraine to advance peace initiatives. On the same day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi cautioned Russian President Vladimir Putin that ending the war was imperative for humanity's sake, to which Putin allegedly agreed.

The conflict has prompted several NATO members, particularly those neighboring Russia, to strengthen their military readiness, following intensifying drone incidents along the border regions. The NATO Baltic air policing mission temporarily activated fighter jets in Latvia, and Finland has restricted air and maritime traffic near Russia, as drones were observed over Russia’s Leningrad region, where Ust-Luga is situated.

Estonia’s Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, expressed gratitude to NATO for swiftly and effectively deploying fighter jets in response to the escalating threats.
