Nine killed, over a dozen injured as Russia strikes Kyiv region for sixth successive day

Nine individuals were killed and more than twelve people were injured in Russian air strikes targeting Kyiv and the surrounding region on Tuesday, authorities announced. This marks the sixth consecutive day of attacks on the Ukrainian capital.

In addition to Kyiv, over a dozen people sustained injuries as a result of the strikes. Fires erupted in various locations throughout the capital, according to emergency services reported via the Telegram messaging app. In Boryspil, situated in the Kyiv region, one person lost their life while nine others, including a child, were injured when missiles and drones hit an apartment building and a business facility, Governor Tymur Tkachenko informed via Telegram.

The relentless Russian strikes on Kyiv and its surroundings are causing significant disruption to the lives of millions of people. Air raid warnings were in effect across most of Ukraine's territory early Tuesday. Furthermore, Russia has intensified its assaults on Ukraine's borders, as well as energy and logistical facilities. On Tuesday, a fresh strike obstructed border crossings into Romania, a member of the European Union and NATO, at Orlivka on the Danube River.

Meanwhile, in Russia, a drone attack resulted in a fire in the port area of Ust-Luga, a major export hub in the northwest. Moscow is countering the drone attacks. In Russia's Samara region, located approximately 500 miles southeast of Moscow and home to several major oil refineries, an air assault damaged civilian facilities, as reported by the local governor via Telegram.

Both Russia and Ukraine adamantly deny deliberately targeting civilians. However, Reuters was unable to independently verify the damage reports. Efforts to end the deadliest conflict on the European continent since World War Two, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, continue. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy engaged in a detailed and constructive conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to discuss potential dates for a visit aimed at advancing peace efforts.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin the urgent need for the war to end for the sake of humanity. NATO members, particularly those bordering Russia, have bolstered their military capabilities due to the escalating drone incidents near Russian borders. Estonia's foreign minister expressed gratitude to NATO for swiftly deploying fighter jets in air as a precautionary measure following the drone activity over Leningrad region, where Ust-Luga is located.
