Police beef up security in Kano, deploy 250 officers to border LGAs

The Kano State Police Command has bolstered security by deploying 250 newly trained officers to border local government areas. This deployment occurred on Tuesday following a one-month intensive combat and weapon-handling training. The officers completed their training at two police mobile force locations in Kano: No. 9 PMF, Hotoro, and No. 52 PMF, Challawa.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori addressed the graduating officers at a passing-out ceremony. He emphasized the deployment's role in strengthening security along the state's borders and in frontline communities. Bakori urged the officers to maintain vigilance, professionalism, and fairness, stressing that firearms should only be used within legal limits and with respect for citizens' rights.

The training covered various aspects, including combat drills, rifle maintenance, tactical maneuvers, human rights, use of force, firearms, police-public relations, intelligence-led policing, IED recognition, response, and community-based policing. Bakori highlighted that the training aligned with the Inspector-General of Police's strategic vision, which prioritizes personnel capacity building, professionalism, and operational readiness.

Continued in-house refresher training was also planned to ensure officers remain effective and safe in their duties.

Following the ceremony, Commanding Officers of the respective PMFs commended the officers for their discipline and endurance during training. They assured the graduates that the command would continue to support initiatives aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness. Bakori expressed gratitude to the instructors, training team, and officers of the Department of Operations, as well as the Kano State Government and residents for their support in security efforts.

The 250 officers were then directed to proceed to their new assignments, with Bakori noting that their deployment would enhance border security, police visibility, and the command's response to security threats across Kano.
