PN Supreme Council to meet soon to discuss Bersatu

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council is set to convene soon to deliberate on various matters, including the position of Bersatu within the coalition, according to PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan. An announcement from Berita Harian states that the meeting will occur after PAS's annual muktamar, which is scheduled to take place from tomorrow until September 5.

During this meeting, the council may also address the matter of Bersatu's role in PN. Takiyuddin has expressed his belief that Bersatu no longer aligns with PN, citing a clear lack of cohesion within the coalition. He further emphasized that the PN constitution allows for the removal or suspension of members if they are no longer in line with the coalition's direction.

Cracks in the relationship between PAS and Bersatu began to surface towards the end of last year, ultimately leading to PAS discontinuing their political cooperation with Bersatu in June. Despite Bersatu's independent performance in the Negeri Sembilan polls, where they contested against PN, they have since accused PAS of steering the opposition coalition in the wrong direction and causing toxicity within the coalition.

Meanwhile, Utusan Malaysia reports that Takiyuddin confirmed PAS leaders will attend the Umno general assembly in Kuala Lumpur next week. The invitations extended to Takiyuddin, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, and two other party representatives are contingent upon Hadi's health. If he is unable to attend, another leader will take his place.

It is worth noting that Umno and PAS formally reestablished their ties in the Negeri Sembilan election, contesting under a Barisan Nasional-PN alliance and securing a two-thirds majority.
