PN Supreme Council to meet soon to discuss Bersatu

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council is set to convene soon to address multiple matters, one of which involves the role of Bersatu within the coalition. This announcement comes from PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, who indicated that the meeting will take place after PAS holds its annual muktamar, scheduled from tomorrow until September 5. The decision to discuss Bersatu's position in PN follows reports of growing fissures in the relationship between PAS and Bersatu.

Hassan explicitly stated that Bersatu has no justification for remaining in PN, asserting that it is no longer aligned with the coalition. This sentiment stems from the apparent misalignment between the two entities, which was exacerbated by PAS' decision to end their political cooperation with Bersatu in June. The split within PAS and Bersatu intensified following the latter's performance in the Negeri Sembilan polls, where they contested independently against PN and faced accusations of derailing the opposition coalition.

Moreover, Utusan Malaysia quoted Takiyuddin, confirming that leaders from PAS would attend the upcoming Umno general assembly in Kuala Lumpur next week. However, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's participation is contingent on his health condition, with a potential replacement should Hadi be unable to attend. Umno and PAS had previously reconciled under the BN-PN alliance during the Negeri Sembilan elections, securing a two-thirds majority.
