No changes to Perak Opposition seating despite Bersatu fallout, says Speaker

IPOH, Sept 1 — Perak State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid has stated that there are no formal requests to modify the Opposition's seating layout following recent dismissals and suspensions within Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu). During a press conference, the Speaker confirmed that the current floor plan remains unchanged, as no official applications have been received.

Mohammad Zahir was responding to inquiries about potential seating changes due to political realignments involving Bersatu assemblymen. In June, Sungai Manik assemblyman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, expelled from Bersatu, joined Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan). Among the sacked members were five out of nine elected Bersatu assemblymen in Perak, including Zainol Fadzi.

Of the four remaining assemblymen, three have been suspended or resigned from their Bersatu positions and are now supporting Wawasan, while one remains in Bersatu but supports the new party. Zainol Fadzi, who continues to serve as Perak opposition chief whip, has been appointed as the Perak state Wawasan coordinator. The Perak opposition bench consists of 26 assemblymen, comprising 17 from PAS, eight from Bersatu, and one from Wawasan.
