Lindsay Clancy jury set to deliberate for another day

Jurors in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial are set to continue their deliberations for a fourth day on Tuesday, aiming to determine if she should be held criminally responsible for the deaths of her three young children in 2023. Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse, is accused of strangling her children, but maintains that postpartum psychosis prompted her actions. Prosecutors contend she was aware of her behavior at the time.

The 36-year-old has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, meaning she argues her deteriorating mental health played a role in the killings. The jury could return with a verdict of murder, manslaughter, or an acquittal based on her mental state at the time of the crimes. If found guilty, Clancy could face a life prison sentence. Should she be acquitted, a judge might still order her confinement to a mental health facility if deemed a danger to society following an evaluation.

Clancy's defense highlighted her love for her children, attributing the killings to her loss of grip on reality due to postpartum psychosis. The prosecutor's case suggests Clancy chose to kill her children, driven by depression and a desire to end her life before attempting suicide.
