Yesterday, social media circulated images of a participant believed to be a Malaysian transgender woman in a beauty pageant for transgender women in Bangkok, Thailand. Malaysian Prime Minister's Office Religion Minister Zulkifli Hasan strongly condemned the actions of an individual who participated in the transgender beauty pageant in Bangkok.

He emphasized that such actions tarnish the country's image and contradict Islamic teachings, local customs, and Malaysian people's values of modesty. Organizing or participating in such an event has never received any support, justification, or recognition from religious or government authorities in Malaysia. The ministry stressed that promoting the portrayal of a different gender and advocating a transgender lifestyle is illegal according to Islamic law and prohibited under Sharia law in the states.

Yesterday, a photograph of a participant believed to be a Malaysian transgender woman circulated on social media during the event, leading to accusations of the event's legitimacy being held in Penang. However, Mufti of Penang Mohd Sukki Othman clarified that the accusations were inaccurate, but the event organizers had listed a participant with a Malaysian name.

Meanwhile, Zulkifli stated that religious authorities would work with relevant agencies to investigate actions based on existing laws. Malaysians were advised not to sensationalize or glorify acts that violate religious principles, but rather stand together to uphold the community's moral values and beliefs.
