Lagos begins enforcement of 2026 parking permits, warns defaulters

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has begun enforcing the regulations for 2026 parking permits across its zones in Lagos, warning non-compliant businesses and individuals of hefty fines and immediate suspension of operations. According to Adebisi Adelabu, General Manager of LASPA, this enforcement marks the end of the extended grace period given to customers to regularize their parking activities and acquire the necessary permits.

Adelabu disclosed that the enforcement aims to uphold compliance with approved parking regulations, promote accountability, and improve the management of parking activities across the state. She expressed concern over the slow uptake of 2026 parking permits by customers, despite multiple appeals, communications, and reminders. LASPA had distributed the 2026 Demand Notices containing fees, requirements, and procedures for obtaining the permits to all registered customers.

Adelabu emphasized that the enforcement exercise is not punitive but intended to restore order, accountability, and efficiency within Lagos' parking system. Valid parking permits and accurate customer records are crucial for LASPA to effectively manage and regulate parking infrastructure and services across the state, as stated in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

Customers who fail to comply with the 2026 Demand Notices would face severe penalties, including significant fines and immediate suspension of operations. LASPA personnel are available to assist and guide customers in registering and paying online for the permits. The authority urges the public to cooperate with enforcement officers and report unauthorized parking activities to LASPA.
