Kargil Democratic Alliance supports citizens’ march to mark first anniv of death of civilians in Leh protest

The Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) has expressed its support for a citizens' march scheduled to take place next week, commemorating the first anniversary of the deaths of four civilians in Leh in September 2022. The march, organized by the Socialist Party of India and various civil and political groups, will traverse from Kargil to Leh, reiterating demands for Ladakh's statehood and the Sixth Schedule institution.

KDA leaders confirmed this decision on Monday, with co-chairman Asgar Ali Karbalai emphasizing their commitment to a "peaceful and democratic" pursuit of constitutional, democratic, and legitimate rights for the Ladakh people. Sajjad Kargili, the march's convenor, confirmed that the Leh Apex Body (LAB) also supports the event, offering coordination assistance.

On the final day of the march, September 24, the participating groups will hold a candlelight vigil to honor the victims and reaffirm their calls for justice, accountability, and a resolution to the issues that triggered the tragic incident. KDA clarified that the march is not aimed against any individual or political party, but remains a peaceful people's movement advocating for the rights of the Ladakh populace and advocating for these concerns to be addressed through dialogue and democratic engagement.
