Kargil Democratic Alliance supports citizens’ march to mark first anniv of death of civilians in Leh protest

The Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) has expressed its backing for a citizens' march set to take place next week, commemorating the first anniversary of the tragic deaths of four civilians in Leh in September last year. The march, organized by the Socialist Party of India alongside various civil and political groups, will travel from Kargil to Leh, reiterating demands for Ladakh's statehood and the Sixth Schedule institution, among other concerns.

On Monday, KDA leaders announced their support for the peaceful and democratic struggle for the constitutional, democratic, and legitimate rights of the Ladakh people. Asgard Ali Karbalai, the party co-chairman, emphasized this stance.

The march's convener, Sajjad Kargili, reported that the Leh Apex Body (LAB) has also lent its support to the initiative by helping with its coordination. On the final day of the march in Leh on September 24, a candlelight vigil will be held to honor the victims, reaffirming the demand for justice, accountability, and a credible resolution to the issues that led to the tragedy.

KDA clearly stated that the march is not targeted at any individual or political party, but is a peaceful people's movement advocating for the rights of Ladakh's residents, emphasizing the importance of resolving these issues through dialogue and democratic engagement.
