Internet banking transactions hit GH¢383.82bn in 2025

In 2025, internet banking transactions in Ghana reached an impressive total value of GH¢383.82 billion, marking an astonishing 80.7% increase from the previous year's GH¢212.44 billion. The report from the 2025 Payment Systems Oversight Annual Report also highlighted a substantial growth in the volume of internet banking transactions, reaching 47,587,105 in 2025 compared to 26,063,456 in 2024.

Moreover, mobile banking transactions exhibited remarkable growth in both transaction value and volume in 2025. The value of mobile banking transactions surged by an impressive 130.5% year-on-year, while the number of transactions increased by 31.6%. This strong performance in both internet and mobile banking underscores the growing public confidence in digital funds transfer services and signifies a significant shift towards more efficient cashless payment channels.

The Bank of Ghana emphasized the transformation of Ghana's electronic payment landscape, driven by continuous technological innovation, proactive initiatives by the banking sector, and robust regulatory support. They highlighted the essential role of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) as key touchpoints for accessing cash and cashless services, as well as the increasing centrality of Point of Sale (POS) terminals in Ghana's transition to a more efficient cash-lite economy.
