Former Tabung Haji chairman, ex-Treasury sec-gen released from MACC custody in RCI-linked probe

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 — A former Tabung Haji (TH) chairman and a former Treasury secretary-general were released from Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) custody today, according to Harian Metro. The two men, both in their 60s and titled "Datuk Seri" and "Tan Sri", had been remanded on August 27. They were arrested at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on August 26 in connection with an RCI probe into the pilgrims’ fund.

The investigation is under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which deals with soliciting gratification through one's office or position. A former TH CEO was also detained in this probe. Prior to that, MACC had detained seven others, including a shipping company CEO, two company directors and four former TH senior management members, over allegations of false information, a proposed investment, and a hotel lease in Saudi Arabia.

The 252-page RCI report, declassified and released on July 29, four years after completion, recommended amendments to the Tabung Haji Act 1995, including barring active politicians from serving as directors and requiring expertise from board members.
