Netanyahu visits school in Ramle hit by missile during Iran war as Israel classes start nationwide

On the first day of the 2026-2027 school year in Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Benzion Netanyahu School in Ramle, a facility that was struck by an Iranian missile during the previous conflict. The school had been undergoing rehabilitation and renovation since the attack, culminating in an official inauguration that was perfectly timed to coincide with the start of classes nationwide. Accompanying the prime minister on the visit were Education Minister Yoav Kisch and Ramle Mayor Michael Vidal.

The visit included interactions with school staff and students, marking the students' first day in their new, repaired school building. Israel's Education Ministry has outlined key priorities for the upcoming school year, focusing on three main themes: fostering a sense of belonging and resilience among students, deepening their understanding of identity and heritage, and equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate a rapidly evolving world.

These objectives encompass strengthening the sense of security and community, cultivating cultural and historical awareness, introducing financial literacy into the curriculum, and integrating artificial intelligence into both teaching methods and assessment processes.

With approximately 2.6 million students, including roughly 180,000 first-graders, set to commence their education in Israel's schools and kindergartens, the ministry's initiatives aim to provide a comprehensive and forward-thinking educational experience that addresses the challenges and opportunities of the modern era. Education Minister Yoav Kisch emphasized the ministry's commitment to these goals, stating that the year would be marked by a strong sense of responsibility and a clear vision for student development and success.
