At 27, Noida man got a fatty liver diagnosis. Why it’s a silent disease

At the age of 27, Aman visited a doctor due to digestive issues like bloating and mushy stools. After receiving medication for a few months, his symptoms improved. However, the problems returned, and his liver enzyme levels soared. This prompted his doctor to conduct a FibroScan, a non-invasive test measuring liver stiffness and detecting fibrosis or scarring.

The results revealed that Aman's liver was fat and stiff, leading to his diagnosis of Grade 2-3 fatty liver, indicating a significant amount of fat buildup and liver scarring. A fibrosis score of 6 suggests that the liver is under strain and stiffening due to fat accumulation, potentially resulting in permanent damage. This trend is increasingly observed among people in India, with fatty liver often remaining symptomless and liver enzymes normal even with substantial fat accumulation, as noted by Dr M Irtaza, a Senior Consultant at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi.
