Anloga Junction traders protest alleged unlawful eviction as Oforikrom Assembly denies claims

Traders at Anloga Junction in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region staged a protest against an alleged eviction from government land, claiming the land has been reserved for the construction of an interchange. However, the local assembly denies these claims, stating the land was meant for a bus terminal project. Protesters insist they are ready to vacate the area if the government starts the interchange construction, but will resist any move to evict them for private development.

The Assembly's Chairman, Obed Kwame Kataka Beyenyegleodegbe, clarified that the land is solely reserved for the interchange project and should not be released for private use. However, the Chief Municipal Engineer, Anyam Kwasi Edward, said the situation has been misunderstood by the traders. He clarified that a contractor working on a bus terminal project requested the traders temporarily relocate to allow construction to continue on a specific portion of the land, which does not equate to an eviction of the entire area.

The Assembly's intention, according to Anyam Kwasi Edward, is to facilitate the bus terminal construction and enhance the area for the benefit of traders and commuters.
